Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
Starting therapy is a big step. Knowing what to expect financially shouldn't be a barrier to getting there.
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) before starting services at Inner Heart Therapy. This page explains what this means and how to request one.
What Is a Good Faith Estimate?
A Good Faith Estimate is a written summary of the expected costs for your therapy services. A GFE is not a bill and does not lock you into a specific number of sessions. A GFE is a starting point for understanding what therapy with Inner Heart Therapy is likely to cost based on your current situation.
Federal law requires healthcare providers, including therapists, offer a GFE to clients who are uninsured or who choose not to use their insurance (self-pay).
Who Receives a GFE
You are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate if you:
Are not using insurance for therapy services
Are using out-of-network benefits and paying out of pocket
Request a GFE for any other reason
If you are using in-network insurance benefits, your insurer handles cost estimates directly. Your explanation of benefits from your insurance company is the right document to reference.
What to Expect
For self-pay clients, the current rate at Inner Heart Therapy is $125 per 50-minute individual therapy session.
Your GFE will include:
The expected cost per session
The type of service being provided
A projected total based on your anticipated treatment length
Treatment length varies from person to person. Your therapist will discuss a reasonable estimate with you during your first session, and the estimate will be reflected in your GFE.
A Note on Accuracy
A Good Faith Estimate is an estimate, not a guarantee. The actual number of sessions you need depends on your goals, progress, and preferences. You are always free to adjust the frequency of sessions or stop services at any time.
If your final charges exceed your GFE by more than $400, you have the right to dispute the bill. Information on the dispute process is available at cms.gov/nosurprises.
